When you think about going on a holiday, you think about the experiences you want to have at your destination; the places and attractions you want to see, the things you want to do… refer to that bucket list you’ve no doubt got in your mind and you’ll know what we’re talking about!
Some things you can do yourself, like wander through historical districts to take in the architecture, or visit a temple, gallery or museum. Instead of walking around with your head in a guidebook, we recommend taking advantage of day tours.
Going on a day tour is like having a friend to show you around. Tour guides know the place like the back of their hand and they will share things with you that you won’t find in a destination guide or on Google. Don’t let the name deceive you though, day tours come in all durations and styles. From an hour or two walking the streets of Paris eating cheese, watching the sunrise over Cambodia’s Angkor Wat, to a full day diving the Red Sea in Dahab, Egypt, the experiences that day tours provide create the most wonderful holiday memories.
Sure, you can arrange day tours once you reach your destination, but who wants to plan their holiday while they are on their holiday?! That time is best spent lounging by a pool, exploring the local neighbourhood, or going on another day tour! Plus, without pre-planning you may very well miss out on ticking one of those items off your bucket list because the tour isn’t running the day you want it to, or it’s booked out. To avoid disappointment, we recommend pre-booking your must-do experiences when you book the rest of your trip.
We recommend taking some time to research your destinations to uncover the various experiences you can enjoy during your visit. The Lonely Planet website is a helpful resource.
